About UsThe Coalition of Behavioral Health Agencies, Inc. is the umbrella advocacy organization of New York's behavioral health community, representing over 100 non-profit community based behavioral health agencies that serve more than 350,000 clients in the five boroughs of New York City and its environs. Founded in 1972, The Coalition is membership supported along with foundation and government funding for special purpose advocacy training and technical assistance projects. Why The Coalition MattersAdvocacyAdvocating with City, State, and Federal elected officials and agencies for sound public policies and for adequate resources on behalf of community-based behavioral health providers. Serving as liaison with all branches of government and with the advocacy community. CommunicationsReporting to our members about policy developments and changes in regulations and law and informing the general public about news affecting the behavioral health sector. Research and InformationGathering research and data which inform our policy positions and offering credible recommendations to policy makers, legislators and regulators. Learning and Technical AssistanceProviding up-to-date strategies for anticipating and coping with industry-wide changes like HIPAA, Managed Care, corporate compliance, Medicare Part D, PROS, ACT, evidence based practices, billing procedures, contracting processes, licensing and audits. Collaborative Decision MakingEmploying a committee and taskforce structure that informs members with diverse missions and facilitates vibrant dialogue and problem-solving. System ChangePromoting, rehabilitation and recovery opportunities for recipients of New York City behavioral health services and providing assistance to providers and organizations through The Coalition's Center for Rehabilitation and Recovery. Behavioral ServicesThe Coalition's member organizations sustain some of New York's most vulnerable citizens: persons with HIV, struggling families, the fragile elderly, people living with co-morbid health conditions, people discharged from psychiatric hospitals and detoxification units, prison discharges, troubled children and adolescents.
