Taking a Stand to Enforce Behavioral Health Parity Laws

Ten years have passed since Behavioral Health Parity became federal law.

Yet today, too many people still cannot get the treatment they need because of discriminatory insurance rules.

Last week, the "New York Parity at 10 Coalition" led by the Legal Action Center, including The Coalition, met with state officials from Governor Cuomo's Office and leadership from the NYS Department of Health (DOH), Department of Financial Services (DFS), Office of Mental Health (OMH), Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) and Division of Budget (DOB) about ongoing efforts and additional steps to end discrimination in mental health and addiction insurance coverage.

Advocates in New York are taking the stand for millions of people to get the care they need. To help us advocate and to look at the new website launched by Parity at 10, log in to

Mental Health Service Corps Update

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Health (DOHMH) has exciting news about becoming a Mental Health Services Corps (MHSC) site. They have ended the program's prohibition on billing for MHSC clinician's services. A site participating in the MHSC program can now decide whether and how to bill for an MHSC clinician's services, within applicable billing regulations. This change will not affect the mission, design or requirements of the MHSC program.

To apply for the Mental Health Service Corps, simply complete the application. For questions, please contact Iyashia Abednego at DOHMH recommends that you submit your application as soon as possible.
