- Center for Economic and Policy Research has written a report (04/04) looking at the scarcity of jobs and slow wage growth and how this affects a return to work for Welfare recipients. It is called For Welfare Reform to Work, Jobs Must be Available. To view click on the title.

- Jobs for the Future, (JFF) a non-profit, research, consulting, and advocacy organization based in Boston, Massachusetts has released a series of reports looking at advancement for low-skilled workers from the center of employment and training policy. - Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured recently published a paper on Medicaid changes in Oregon reflective of fall off in state revenues combined with rising health care costs seen in many states. - Oxford University Press: Voices from the Edge: Narratives about the Americans with Disabilities Act is available from Oxford University Press. - SAMHSA released a report of the annual NSDUH (National Survey on Drug Use and Health) on adults with co-occurring severe mental illness and substance abuse disorders on June 25th. The report includes: prevalence of co-occurring disorders, receipt of mental health treatment, and receipt of specialty substance abuse treatment. - Urban Institute (Justice Policy Center), the Legal Action Center, and the Welfare to Work Partnership are offering a series of free and easy-to-use guides. - Bazelon: On June 22, 1999, the United States Supreme Court held in Olmstead v. L.C. that the unnecessary segregation of individuals with disabilities in institutions may constitute discrimination based on disability. - Howie T. Harp is presenting a health fair called Health for Everyone on Friday July 16th from 10 AM to 2 PM at 163 W. 125th Street, Adam Clayton Powell Jr. State Office Building in the plaza, rain or shine. - IAPSRS: The International Association of Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (IAPSRS) announced in June that its U.S. and Canadian members have split, with each forming their own affiliate. IAPSRS will now have a new name for its association in the United States- the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (USPRA). For more information go to: http://www.iapsrs.org/
- Mentally Ill Offender and Crime Reduction Act of 2003: this is a comprehensive piece of legislation that could affect adults and juveniles with a mental health history in contact with the criminal justice system. This legislation is about to go before the House after passing in the Senate in October, 2003. - Office of the Mayor: on June 23rd at an Association for A Better New York (ABNY) breakfast, Mayor Bloomberg announced the details of the City's "Action Plan" for ending homelessness. The Mayor is challenging his commissioners to accomplish the following at the end of 2009: reduce street homelessness by two thirds, cut the size of shelter usage by two thirds, and develop 12,000 units of supportive housing by 2014.
