Description

The Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service is one of Brooklyn’s oldest and largest non-sectarian social services agencies. The Brooklyn Bureau has been a leading provider of social services to families, children and adults with disabilities since 1866. The Brooklyn Bureau, which presently serves more than 10,000 individuals annually, is committed to a broad and diverse range of services including prevention of foster care placement; crisis intervention; early childhood and after school education; and vocational training, job placement and clinical services to adults with physical and developmental disabilities, and histories of mental illness.

Brooklyn High School for Leadership and Community Service is a small, academically rigorous, full-time New York City Department of Education Transfer School designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school. The Brooklyn Bureau is directly responsible for the administration of the school’s Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school’s academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct clerical support to BBCS school staff; Answer and screen telephone calls; Handle reception duties for school visitors; Maintain administrative files and online data reporting system. Assist in the preparation of statistical reports. Maintain administrative calendar and report due dates; Circulate information to staff. Maintain office supplies and petty cash. Arrange repairs of office equipment as needed. Fill in for other clerical and/or reception duties as needed.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; Strong computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Access. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and interact positively with teens. Organized team player with excellent interpersonal skills; assist with hallway monitoring in high school. Spanish speaking is highly preferred, but not required. This position requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check prior to start of position.
