Temporary Intake Specialist Social Worker – Parole Restoration Program

Description

This is a temporary position to cover maternity leave. The Parole Restoration Program works to restore prison bound technical parole violators to parole through placement in drug treatment and mental health services. The intake specialist social worker works on Rikers Island to conduct screening interviews to identify parolees with substance abuse and/or mental health disorders. Participants found eligible are enrolled in residential and outpatient treatment. The specialist works in collaboration with the Program Director to present screening findings at the violation hearings. Once the parolee is approved for release the specialist coordinates the discharge from jail and supports the community based PRP staff to escort parolees to the treatment program and monitor their treatment enrollment and participation.

Responsibilities:

•Conduct screening interviews and administer standardized clinical screening instruments;
•Screen and assess parolees to identify individuals with mental health disorders that need access to integrated treatment for mental illness and substance use disorders;
•Identify appropriate treatment placements and coordinate discharge date;
•Work collaboratively with defense attorneys, administrative law judges, and parole revocation specialists to identify eligible participants;
•Present screening findings at violation hearings and advocate for the parolee to be released to treatment services;
•Coordinate discharge with community-based PRP staff;
•Match parolees to treatment providers based on treatment needs, preference and the location of the services; and
•Complete PRP charting using database following program standards and timelines.

Position entails a 35-hour a week commitment and is located on Rikers Island. The position will become available in November and there may be an opportunity for a permanent position within the adult behavioral health services at CASES.

Qualifications

•Licensed Master in Social work (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW);
•At least three years of experience working with people with substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health substance use disorders and involvement in criminal justice system;
•Extensive knowledge of residential and outpatient drug and mental health services
•Proficient in computers; and
•Fluency in Spanish preferred
