Managing Director, Mental Health and Wellness (Executive Level)

Description
University Settlement provides a comprehensive network of services to over 30,000 people of all ages living in the Lower East Side, Brooklyn and beyond. The Door, an affiliate of University Settlement, helps over 11,500 young people each year by empowering them to reach their potential by providing comprehensive youth development services in a diverse and caring environment.
We are seeking an executive level Managing Director to oversee our mental health programs at both University Settlement and The Door. The Managing Director will provide leadership, supervision and direction for mental health services in both organizations, directly overseeing Program Directors in an Article 31 Clinic with several satellite sites (at The Door, within our charter school, Broome Street Academy, and within community public schools), the Counseling Department of The Door, Children’s Blended Case Management and Home-Based Crisis Intervention Programs (children 5 to 24), and two supportive housing buildings for youth (SPMI, formerly homeless, aging out of foster care population).
By teaching and guiding Program Directors and building stronger collaborative relationships and shared resources between the various mental health programs of the agencies, and between all the program areas of The Door and University Settlement, the Managing Director will increase inter-program referrals and/or embedded mental health supports, and increase skills among all agency staff on issues of mental health and wellness, and ensure the highest quality services across the communities we serve.
Beyond direct supervision of mental health program directors, this executive manager will lead external relationships with the City, State and Federal health agencies. The managing director will represent the agencies with coalitions and other related external partners in the mental health arena; guide relationships related to managed care, health homes, New York State’s Medicaid.
Responsibilities: •Supervise the work of mental health Program Directors through regular individual and group meetings; coach and mentor managers and leaders to develop professionally in support of organizational goals; provide clinical guidance. •Partner with Program Directors to design and develop new initiatives, policies, and procedures; to integrate programming or resources beyond the mental health/counseling division to better serve our communities. •Ensure programs operate in compliance with all regulations, government contracts and private funding sources. •Seek out and take on opportunities to be an external, outward-facing presence on behalf of The Door and University Settlement to ensure continuing visibility, support and advocacy for participant and community needs. •Evaluate opportunities to expand external partnerships and funding prospects and assist in the management of those relationships. •Write proposals for public and private funding in collaboration with Program Directors and the Development department. •Work with Program Directors and Fiscal Office to manage all programmatic budgets; support Program Directors on Human Resource issues in partnership with the Human Resources department. •Ensure accurate and timely reporting for all contractual obligations. •Act as lead negotiator with managed care bodies; and lead organizations through Medicaid redesign transitions, particularly ensuring continued participation in children’s and community based mental health services and funding streams. •Monitor evaluations, data and outcomes to support quality and accountability in all programs; support a culture of inquiry, community input and reflection for continuous improvement. •Develop and maintain external relationships within the field in support of community needs and the agencies’ programs and initiatives. •Work as a part of the executive management team to conduct strategic planning within the specified program areas as well as on larger organizational planning. Advise the executive directors on organizational strategy, management initiatives, priorities, communications and operations. •Teach, support and ensure practices for fiscally sound clinic and program operations. •Act as the agencies’ OMIG Compliance Officer and support all programs on Quality Assurance. •Other functions and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
•Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Public Health or a similar field; LCSW strongly preferred •Minimum 10 years post-master’s supervisory experience within mental health settings and systems; at least 7 years supervising managers; direct clinical experience and clinical supervision preferred. •Advanced management training and proven supervisory experience •Understanding of current and emerging issues in mental health and social services coupled with working knowledge of OHM, DOHMH rules, regulations and codes and managed care / third party insurers •Experience with children, youth, families, senior mental health provision, and community-based care and strategies •Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; strong interest in working collaboratively and across disciplines; public speaking required •Excellent supervision and coaching skills to support program managers to achieve their highest functioning, exceed program goals, and support their teams in high performance and high job satisfaction •An understanding of social policies having an impact on our communities; cultural competence within diverse settings and communities; and willingness to engage in community advocacy on behalf of the agency and the communities we serve and to support the agency to work toward just social policies locally and beyond. •Entrepreneurial spirit, generativity, commitment to excellence expected; sense of humor welcome. •Demonstrated ability to build internal and external bridges, collaborations and partnerships
