Part time (24 hours) HSE Teacher, Brooklyn Justice Corps

Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES)

Description

Job title: Part Time HSE Teacher, Brooklyn Justice Corps

Reports to: Director of Youth Education Services

Position entails a 24-hour work week. Applicants must be available 9:30am-3:30pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Overview: CASES' youth programs aim to help New York City's justice-involved young people, ranging in age from 13-24, to lead productive, crime-free lives. Our approach is distinguished by individualized case management, evidence-based programming, and group activities that build positive peer associations. For many, this is the first time in their lives that they are participating in activities that help them set personal goals and develop the skills they need to reach them. As a result, hundreds of our youth participants have enrolled in secondary, post-secondary, and vocational institutions, acquired their High School Equivalency Diplomas, found unsubsidized employment, and ended their involvement in the justice system.

New York City Justice Corps is a project to reconnect previously court-involved young people, 18-24, with their community through case management, education, community benefit projects, internships, and other activities during a six-month intensive services period, followed by six months of aftercare. The goal of Brooklyn Justice Corps is to provide participants with the skills, motivation, and connections they need to meet their long-term education and career goals and avoid future justice system involvement. Teachers support this goal by providing high-quality academic instruction at the pre-HSE or HSE prep level as well as tutoring and education referrals.
