Behavioral Support Director

Description
The Behavioral Support Director is responsible for leadership, planning, assessment and implementation of all diverse behavioral supports for individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities and psychiatric diagnosis. The Director works collaboratively with the organization’s medical and residential staff in both group home and community settings. The Director offers leadership and expertise in providing a broad array of behavioral health interventions designed to improve the quality of life of the people we support and assist the direct support professionals working with individuals facing multiple challenges. The primary focus is on ensuring high quality services to children and adults diagnosed with I/DD, Autism and mental illnesses.
The Behavioral Supports Director leads a team that consists of one Behavior Intervention Specialist Coordinator and approximately 14 full time Behavior Intervention Specialists. The Director monitors compliance with current laws, regulations, and industry standards including planning, supporting and assisting with securing service expansion opportunities and supports the I/DD operations of the organization.
The Director participates in the Corporate Plan strategies and outcomes, Corporate Compliance, Utilization Management, staff retention and development, and living and actively promoting the Vision and Mission of the Agency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead and Oversee organization’s nearly 30 residential homes, apartments, communication habilitation and day services behavioral supports for the individuals diagnosed with multiple disabilities. Lead organization’s IDD clinical practice through providing clinical consultation and case supervision to all IDD services and staff. Engages the direct support professionals to recognize and identify the unique talents, desires and needs of the individuals they support. Ensure clinically appropriate supports and services are in place to ensure quality of life for those we serve. Ensure high quality behavioral and risk assessments are completed in compliance of 14 NYCRR Section 633.16 regulations. Effectively implement and manage and after hour on-call which includes on-site support Partner with each person, their circle of support, DSPs and community based clinical and medical services providers to ensure that all treatment needs are comprehensive and integrated. Lead recruitment, selection, hiring, retention and professional development for all Behavioral Intervention Specialists. Identify and coordinate training in evidence-based clinical practice for children and adults diagnosed with I/DD co-occurring mental health diagnosis, including those with forensic histories. Ensure that service delivery is designed to meet the needs of individuals and families and includes an array of psychopharmacology, family, group and individual therapeutic modalities. Collaborate with Senior Vice President to ensure integrated, quality service delivery to service recipients, including well-coordinated inter-departmental response. Coordinate treatment services with schools, hospitals and community based providers, and multiple state offices and county departments. Assist in planning and securing service expansion opportunities to meet the needs of the community and support the operations of the organization. Partner in the development of proposals, budgets and implementation plans for new service delivery. Provide input into the development of the Corporate Strategic Plan and ensure implementation of specific objectives to achieve Corporate Key Result Areas.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership: Member of Middle Leadership comprised of 21 Middle Leaders, leads one Behavior Intervention Specialist Coordinator and 14 full time Behavior Intervention Specialists.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Chairs and participates on a wide range of committees of the organization. Represents corporation in leadership roles in various professional and state, county and local committees and boards.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION
Masters in social work or a Ph.D. in psychology, must be independently licensed as a LCSW or Clinical Psychologist with five to ten years of related and progressively responsible clinical leadership and supervisory experience in a similar industry or field. Expertise and experience in working with individuals diagnosed with IDD, Autism, mental illness and significant behavioral challenges.
PREREQUISITES FOR THE JOB Expert skill and experience in directing, guiding, teaching and leading clinical staff in diverse service delivery. Ability to ensure attention to multiple priorities and projects while maintaining focus and depth in key areas. Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret professional research and government regulations to set standards and improve service delivery. Demonstrated written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills. Experience in local, state and national funding rules, regulations, processes and formulas. Superior conceptual, analytical and organizational skills. Extensive knowledge of clinical field including treatment modalities, diagnosis, assessment and crisis intervention techniques. Proven ability to recruit, train, promote and motivate personnel in order to establish staffing to accomplish service delivery with fiscal responsibility.
