Job Title: Social Worker (LCSW) Fee-for-Service – Nathaniel Clinic
Reports to: Clinical Supervisor and Director
Overview: CASES, a private nonprofit organization, combines expertise in criminal justice and behavioral health services to improve outcomes for New York City residents involved in the criminal justice system, and those with mental illness who have not engaged in traditional mental health services. The Nathaniel Clinic is a new Article 31 mental health clinic serving 500 clients. The main clinic site is scheduled to open in June 2014 in Central Harlem serving justice-involved youth aged 13 and above and adults. The Clinic is open Monday through Friday from 9AM- 5PM and Saturday from 9AM- 5PM. Clinicians must have a current NYS license to practice and an NPI number, and will be required to sign an employment agreement that outlines the conditions and expectations of their employment at the Nathaniel Clinic
CASES is seeking fee-for service Licensed Clinical Social Workers to work a minimum of 7 hours per week with adults and adolescents, on a regularly defined schedule. The LCSW should understand the adult and juvenile criminal justice system and the clinical impact of arrest, court processing and incarceration on individuals. The social worker will be expected within one year of employment to complete training in either Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and receive the Integrated Mental Health/Addictions Treatment Training Certificate (IMHATT).
Responsibilities • Provide compassionate clinical treatment in accordance with the scope of practice and regulations governing Article 31 outpatient mental health clinics. • Manage workload using centralized scheduling that will require giving advanced notice about personal days in order to support scheduling efficacy • Conduct screening and assessment in accordance with the use of validated screening tools to screen and assess for depression, trauma, substance use, and risk and needs associated with criminal risk. • Develop recovery-oriented treatment plans and reviews in collaboration with the client, collaterals, and consented stakeholders such as significant others, criminal justice personnel, primary health care provider, care coordinator, and residential providers • Coordinate care with CASES psychiatrists, nurse practitioner, and administrative staff and closely coordinates with others including criminal justice staff (e.g., ATI staff/probation officers) involved in providing services to your client • Use of evidenced based sequential screening for risk of violence and closely monitor risk and utilize risk management protocols to appropriately manage and intervene to effectively serve high risk clients. • Ensure timely and accurate documentation using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR); document all services in accordance with CASES policies, NYSOMH regulations and all relevant federal laws • Engage in effective information sharing in accordance with confidentiality laws, policies, and good practice • Paid for “kept” appointments that are accompanied by required satisfactory documentation of progress notes and treatment plans utilizing concurrent/collaborative documentation • Certification in Child Abuse and Neglect training • Trained in DSM-5 • Work a minimum of 7 hours per week on a regularly defined schedule • Demonstrate the ability to provide treatment that is recovery-oriented, supports evidence-based practice and can clearly establish the status of the client • Complete Core Competency Trainings (including Focus on Integrated Treatment FIT online modules • Conduct individual, family, group therapy as clinically indicated. • Utilize best and evidence-based approaches to treatment consistent with CASES’ organizational culture; health/mental health integration, rehabilitation and recovery, and understanding the effects of incarceration on treatment engagement. • Utilize dashboard data reports from the EHR to track client progress with symptom reduction, increased functioning, and use objective data to determine treatment needs and to support discharge planning. • Provide culturally competent services that are individualized to client needs and reflect the integration of race, ethnicity, culture, primary language, immigration status, developmental status, criminal justice status, sexuality, age, and gender. • Participate in Quality Improvement Measures. • Report all incidents timely as outlined in CASES’ policies and procedures • Maintain all applicable standards of audit readiness. • Attend and actively participate in supervision, staff meetings • Participate in mandatory trainings or provide verifiable evidence about the completion of an equivalent training accepted by the clinic • Any other duties as required by the supervisory and senior staff. • Provide the clinic with 4 weeks notice when terminating employment
Qualifications
• NYS LCSW • 2-3 years of experience in a clinic setting • Strong knowledge of new Article 31 regulations (Part 599) and best practices in clinic operations also required • High degree of computer literacy is necessary • Demonstrated expertise in recovery-oriented, evidenced-based practice • Demonstrated experience with diverse adults receiving mental health treatment, including delivery of treatment to individuals with serious mental illness, functional impairments and psychosocial needs (homelessness, justice involvement, poverty, unemployment, poor education) • Bilingual Spanish preferred
