Job title: Assistant Director of Brooklyn Justice Corps
Reports to: Director of Justice Corps Programs
Overview: New York City Justice Corps is a project to reconnect previously court-involved young people, 18-24, with their community through case management, education, community benefit projects, internships, and other activities during a six-month intensive services period, followed by six months of aftercare. The goal of the program is to provide participants with the skills, motivation, and connections they need to meet their long-term education and career goals and avoid future justice system involvement. The Assistant Director supports this goal by managing partnerships with community benefit project providers and the Community Advisory Board (CAB) and assisting in the overall management of the program.
This position is located in Brooklyn, New York.
Responsibilities: • Serve as the Acting Director in the Director's absence; • Hire, train and supervise worksite supervisors who will work with the Justice Corps youth on the community benefit projects; • Assist in oversight of community partner subcontract, with emphasis on the scheduling and completion of subcontract deliverables; • Recruit, manage and coordinate a Community Advisory Board (CAB) for the Justice Corps project; • Supervise Worksite Supervisors to develop detailed plans for projects and present proposals to CAB for approval; • Develop partnerships with local organizations in order to implement community benefit projects; • Train Worksite Supervisors to deliver the Career Exploration Workshops; • Train Worksite Supervisors and youth participants to deliver presentations about the program and their projects. Schedule and coordinate presentations throughout the community; • Assist coordination with Youth Program staff to provide education and career development classes to participants; and • Ensure overall success of projects, including inspecting the quality of work, monitoring the timely completion of milestones according to project plans, and maintaining regular communication for client satisfaction.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or similar degree and at least 5 years’ experience in related field preferred; equivalent combinations of credentials and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining community partnerships. • Knowledge of and history with community strongly preferred. • Knowledge of and history working with youth and providing services consistent with youth development principles. • Ability to use print and social media to publicize program; • Ability to collaborate as part of a team; • Commitment to the program goals, including a strength-based approach to providing services to previously court-involved young adults.
